ABOUT US

Jim Dales and Catherine Simpson have been farming for ten years. Their foray into alpacas was happenstance - a friend’s suggestion in response to a passing query concerning what kind of animals to consider for a newly purchased acreage. Now, neither can imagine "life without alpacas". They are an integral part of everyday farm life - a real joy to train, manage and show!

Our story is not unlike others who have decided to adopt a rural lifestyle and purchase alpacas. Initially, we both continued to work full-time. It soon became apparent that the farm required more attention and Catherine reduced her work week. What she really wanted to do, however, was to leave the corporate world and develop her interests on the farm. Within a few years, that’s where she found herself. In 2006, Kensington Prairie Farm relocated to Langley, BC and expanded its operations from 5 to 45 acres.

Kensington Prairie Farm has become a diversified farming operation. In addition to breeding, raising and showing Huacaya alpacas, we also market and sell a variety of high-quality alpaca products from both our on-farm store and via the internet (please see www.kpfarm.com/products). Kensington Prairie Farm also raises registered Polled Hereford cattle and produces artisanal honey and a small assortment of farm-based food products.

Kensington Prairie Farm is a member of the Canadian Llama and Alpaca Association (CLAA), Alpaca Canada (AC), Fraser Valley Llama & Alpaca Association (FVLAC), BC Llama & Alpaca Association (BCLAA), Australian Alpaca Association Ltd. (AAA), and Alpaca Registry Inc. (ARI).

Catherine and Jim regularly attend and show their animals at alpaca shows and fairs (e.g. Canadian Alpaca Futurity & Select Sale – Red Deer, Alta., Salmon Arm Fall Fair, Inter-Provincial Exhibition – Armstrong, BC and Country Celebrations - Langley, BC). Catherine also participates in a variety of community-based invitational events and trade shows.
